From 1991 to 2015, The Arches on Glasgow's Maitland Street dominated the Glasgow nightclub scene. I don't think there are many people of a 'certain age' who don't have a tale or two of a wild night in those darkened arches, where time and daylight had no bearing! Most of the world's best DJ's played the iconic venue at some point, greeted by crowds of enthusiastic revellers and finishing the night with 'wan mare choon' being chanted at them relentlessly.
Turning on to Maitland Street, under the railway bridge, the queue of hopeful party people would snake along the street, contained by barriers. Every now and then the faint sound of the bass would escape the doors as people worked their way towards the front and the bouncers for an 'Aye' or 'Naw, not tonight, pal'. At closing, the street was a sea of people, planning the 'efter-party', and looking for mates lost many hours earlier in the cavernous club'.
These hand drawings, by Turadh Design Co, depict a selection of nightclubs, past and present. What better way to get record a special memory than with a drawing of the location itself!
The prints are hand-drawn and digitally rendered. Framed artworks and loose artwork prints can make a great addition to your home or make fantastic gifts for the special people in your life.
