This illustration of a traditional Scottish Blackhouse from the Isle of Tiree, off the west coast of Scotland, are cottages which housed both people and animals. In teh Tiree version, two thick walls are filled in between with sand, which is different to the building methods used on other islands. If you're lucky enough to visit beautiful Tiree you'll see them dotted about, though only twelve or so still have the traditional thatched roof.
